Cultura 21 | Caution Border installation/intervention
Looking for volunteers in Copenhagen for Dec 11, 12 or 13
Request from Sacha Kagan of Cultura21:
We (some of the people at the Cultura21 network: see www.cultura21.net, www.cultura21.dk, www.cultura21.de)
are planning to re-enact in Copenhagen an installation-intervention
based on the "Caution Border" installation that was created by art
students from Geneva (CCC program, HEAD) as part of the Karamoja
Campaign (www.karamoja.eu) both at
the European Commission and in public spaces of Brussels back in
January (and which deals with issues of borders, at different levels,
e.g. opening borders to Climate Refugees):
See http://www.cultura21.net/karamoja/html/art/index.php for more background info and the concept and pictures (see on the left side of the webpage, the "caution border" work
See http://www.creageo.ch/page_9cautionborder.html
for the video of the installation in the open space, at the EC building
and on the Grand Place in Brussels (if you don't see the video, try
downloading the file if you can).
I have two types of requests:
1) We'd like to know how we could link up our intervention to what
others are doing on the theme of borders, around the same dates.
Ideas/suggestions welcome!
2) We need volunteers to assist me (Sacha Kagan) in setting-up the
installation at various locations in Copenhagen. There will be 3 basic
tasks to accomplish:
- placing the yellow tape so as to make passing difficult, in
well-chosen locations (and removing the tape as soon as the police
comes)
- placing some wet signs near the "border" (and taking care that they do not get stolen)
- distributing yellow leaflets to passers-by (and if one wants, talking with them about issues of borders and climate change)
And of course, packing up after about 30 minutes at most in one location, and moving on to another location...
It would also be great if we could have one person filming and one person taking pictures...
The action would take several hours, thus volunteers should have several hours in-a-row available.
The date (still open) could be over the weekend of mid-December, i.e.
on the 11th, 12th or relatively early on the 13th... We created a
Doodle poll for it: If you wish to take part as volunteer, please
mention your availability on the Doodle poll (very important, so we can
get an overview): http://c21.doodle.com/6cpihfqg6igvrgnr
The locations for the installation are also open to your suggestions!
(However, we want to avoid risks of direct physical confrontation with
police/security forces for this intervention ; therefore, we don't want
to place the installation right in front of police barriers for
example.)
Please ask any further question you may have to: sacha.kagan@cultura21.org
