Residencies for artists in all disciplines
Kunst-Stoffe: centre for reusable materials
Berlin
Deadline for applications: December 15
Call for applications reads:
Kunst-Stoffe is a cultural organisation committed to exploring issues of value and waste. We pursue this mission in three areas of activity: Kunst-Stoffe maintains an ongoing and changing exhibition of discarded materials and makes them available for creative practitioners. We carry out and present projects investigating aesthetics and strategies of reuse. We offer workshops and facilities to provide a practice ground for creative exploration of the ideas of sufficiency and subsistence.
The residency includes free housing for the period of stay and offers work space at Kunst-Stoffe. The artist will have a small studio at exclusive disposal and additional outdoor workspace, as well as partial access to equipped workshops for wood, metal and crafts work. Further, participants will receive a voucher for limited amounts of free materials from the storage facilities. The acquisition of additional materials will be supported if necessary.
Living and travelling expenses have to be covered by the participant. Kunst-Stoffe will provide support in the acquisition of travel grants if desired. Towards the end of the stay, each artist has the opportunity to present work process and results in a gallery show, along with a public program. During the stay, participants will be supported in having open studio presentations and holding workshops, if desired.
Interested artists may send an electronic application, consisting of the following:
Please note: Applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered. (You can best support the review procedure by sending all required documents in one PDF)

Working with clients from St Mungo’s homeless charity, they’re helping people break up old laptops and build new ones, adding free opensource software to help them build new computers for themselves entirely free of charge.

On houses that fall into the sea
Earlier this week the papers were full of stories of Ridgemont House in Devon – a house bought for £150,000 by auction, only to see its garden plummet down towards Oddicombe Beach.
The story brought together the national obsession with house prices with the fact of increasing coastal erosion due to climate change. Artist Kane Cunningham is jealous [...]
