16-25 year olds wanted for National Youth Theatre project

Techno Stories
National Youth Theatre seeks 16-24 yerar old actors, writers, designers, producers, film-makers, directors, illustrators, visual artists, musicians, environmentalists and technological whizz kids

You must be aged 16-25 to take part in Techno Stories

Deadline 15 January 2010

Being green isn't what it used to be. What with social networking, satellite communications and Jamie Oliver apps on your iPhone, the world's a changing place, and the performing arts refuse to be left behind.

To explore all the possibilities and come up with some really innovative ideas, the National Youth Theatre and ideastap.com are holding a giant, nationwide brainstorm. You can join them in London, Salford, Sheffield, or the West Midlands for a four-day workshop around the idea of creating a multimedia performance piece.

They will be gathering IdeasTap members over two weekends on January 30 and 31 of January and February 6 and 7 and they'll be joined by leading digital artists to take on a challenge set by NYT Artistic Director Paul Roseby. He'll give each group the details of an environmental production which he has scheduled for early 2010 and ask them how to make it digital. The final ideas from each group will be presented on the last day of the workshops.

Everyone who attends one of the workshops will be invited to come to London on February 27 to meet Paul and discuss their ideas further. Don't worry if you're coming from outside London, your travel expenses will be paid.

It's multi-disciplinary stuff and they'll be looking for a good mixture of people with strong interests in different areas. They need writers, designers, producers, filmmakers, directors, illustrators, visual artists, musicians and environmentalists. They also need people who are technology savvy, so anyone with a firm understanding of the computer programmes and advances in digital theater will be very welcome.

To apply you must join IdeasTap online. Go to www.ideastap.com, click on The Big Pitch, select Techno Stories, join the brief then fill in an application form before 15 Jan 2010.

Poll

As an artist, are you aware of the impact your own practice has on the environment?

Yes, and I consider that when chosing processes and materials.

Yes, but it's better to think of the art first, and the materials and processes second.

No, it's not a consideration when I make my art.
