Grass Roots
Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges of Art (CCW)
Please note: this is a student event only
June 1- 2
Crystal Palace
Based in the shadow of London’s largest radio mast at Crystal Palace Grass Roots asks us to consider how artists and designers might address issues around sustainability and the impact of our work on the environment.
Grass Roots will take place over two days (and one night) and will offer the chance to meet invited artists, activists and thinkers and take part in a series of talks and events that consider sustainability with particular relation to art and design. For Grass Roots students will be asked to make an onsite work in the park. The event will culminate in a walk, visiting (and then clearing away) all the interventions.
Students will be encouraged to use the Crystal Palace site as an impetus to think about ecology and climate change. From its original links with the Victorians and the Great Exhibition to the Dinosaur Park and Crystal Palace tower, Crystal Palace brings much to mind: extinction, industry and radio communication. Are you ready to look into your Crystal Ball?
Camping/workshops 1st—2nd June, at 10.00* on the 1st June. (*Meet 10.00 at campsite for those who are camping and 12.00 in park for non campers.)
