Culture|Futures symposium
Launch event in the run up to COP15
Play a lead role in expanding cultural engagement to sustain human and all life
As a partner in Culture|Futures, The RSA Arts & Ecology Centre is pleased to announce the launch event in Copenhagen on December 7 2009
Culture|Futures is an expanding spiral of engagement of cultural actors around the world.
The cultural sector has a unique part to play in creating an Ecological Age by 2050. It is trusted, collaborative, interactive and transformative - and it is everywhere in all communities, in rich and diverse shapes and forms.
Culture|Futures is the brainchild of the Danish Cultural Institute and Arup, originally conceived at the Poznan COP 14 in December 2008. Its success has since led to ongoing
activities in London, Brussels and Copenhagen in the run up to COP 15.
Cultures|Futures is an expanding network. It includes:
Cultural actors are people, institutions and enterprises in art, design & architecture, film & media, cultural heritage, sport, education, leisure, communication and many more areas. In diverse and wonderful ways they express identity, communicate and bring their perspectives alive in practice.
Many cultural actors choose to express their perspectives about sustaining human and all life. As they do so, the thinking and behaviours of people and communities are affected and surely, they begin to change.
And as living in a way which sustains human and all life gradually becomes normal, an Ecological Age evolves.
Culture|Futures creates an enabling environment for those cultural actors who are moved to express their perspectives about creating an Ecological Age, by recognising, encouraging and supporting them.
The Culture|Futures expanding spiral of engagement begins its journey at the launch symposium on 7th December. Participants are invited to explore the Culture|Futures proposition and to grow the spiral of engagement supporting the COP climate change negotiations.
At the working seminar on the following two days, 8th/9th December, cultural actors from many backgrounds and from around the world, will address the strategic role of culture in delivering an Ecological Age. Participants will collaborate to develop and crystallise the cultural messages about how the spiral of engagement will expand and involve ever more people.
