Learning Site

Learning Site is a collaborative artistic practice whose members are Rikke Luther (DK) and Cecilia Wendt (S), in discussion with Julio Castro (MEX), Brett Bloom (US) and a shifting number of collaborators. As their name suggests, their process based projects have a pedagogical and functional approach bringing through their artistic practice practical solutions to improve the use of land and energy resources.

Since the creation of the collective in 2004, Learning Site have worked in a wide variety of projects in Japan, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, the US and Singapore; always taking as a starting point an indepth research of the local conditions and environments. Their projects range from informal architectural solutions to resource materials and economies, posters, drawings, publications and workshops.

Their discursive exploration of the notion of sustainability is developed through the investigation of issues ranging from alternative economies, environment and labour conditions, as well as urban planning, property rights, and waste management.

The ethos in Learning Site’s work conveys the use of the existing resources and situations in order to have a more sustainable approach to living. Their multidisciplinary and multifaceted approach inter-relates the re-creation of everyday objects and functions, with the examination of public and private space through a collaborative practice and the development of alternative ways of distributing knowledge.

Poll

As an artist, are you aware of the impact your own practice has on the environment?

Yes, and I consider that when chosing processes and materials.

Yes, but it's better to think of the art first, and the materials and processes second.

No, it's not a consideration when I make my art.
